The challenge...
The Harlow Group contacted Green Business Light seeking an energy efficient lighting solution to replace the outdated sodium low bays and fluorescent lights located in the works area of their production and warehouse buildings in Harlow, Essex (approx 4000 square meters in total)

In an initial discussion with Dean Howard (Production Engineer for the site) we established the main requirements which were:
  • To significantly enhance the lighting quality in the production areas;
  • To provide a quick return on investment;
  • To have automatic controls on the light fixtures;
  • To reduce the Harlow Group carbon footprint and energy expenditure
The new lighting system...
Green Business Light organised lighting proposals for both T5 fluorescent tube and induction technologies, it was decided to install a new lighting system primarily based on energy saving induction lamp technology. In a number of warehouse areas a total of 100 x 400W sodium low bay fixtures were replaced by 80 x 120W induction low bay fixtures.

The new lights result in energy savings of 78% with the high "colour rendering index" of the induction lamps providing a real improvement in the quality of light for staff.
Feedback on the Green Business Light service...
Dean Howard (site production engineer) commented "After my initial phone call with the staff at Green Business light, using their knowledge and experience, we determined what Harlow Group wanted to achieve. The help we received was invaluable and the communication before, during and after the lighting installation was excellent, as we knew at all stages of the installation where we stood in completing the project by the finish date as originally set-out. With the new lighting now in place, the Production areas have been significantly improved and day-to-day tasks are now easier to complete."
