The Fabulous Bakin' Boys are a producer of a range of bakery snacks including muffins, flapjacks and cakes. Beginning life in 1997, the company now operates from an 80000 square foot bakery in Witney, Oxfordshire which employs over 150 people. The Fabulous Bakin’ Boys count supermarket giants Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and ASDA in their wide-ranging customer base.

The challenge...
The Fabulous Bakin' Boys contacted Green Business Light seeking an energy efficient lighting solution to replace the outdated HID lights located in the production halls and packing areas of their Witney bakery site.

In an initial discussion with the site engineering manager Andrew Morgan, Green Business Light firstly established the main requirments which were:
  • To provide a quick return on investment;
  • To obtain a high quality white light;
  • To ensure minimum lamp replacement with the new lights
  • To significantly reduce the business carbon footprint
The new lighting system...
Based on feedback from a lighting trial of LED and induction technologies (organised by Green Busines Light), it was decided to install a new lighting system based on induction lamp low bay fixtures. In the first building 35 x 400W HID fixtures (SON's and metal halides) were replaced by 35 x 120W induction fixtures. In the second building 20 x 400W HID fixtures were replaced by 28 x 120W induction fixtures.

The new lights result in energy savings of 68%, with a return on investment in under 18 months with the reduced necessary maintenance providing further business savings.
Feedback on the Green Business Light service...
Andrew Morgan (site engineering manager) commented "The members of the Green Business Light network were excellent in their response & communication at all stages of our lighting project. Green Business Light also provided us with invaluable guidance & lighting solutions which we would not have previously considered"
