The location:
Marriott Hotel, Marble Arch, London
The application:
Bedroom and corridor downlighting
Lighting products used:
220 x 20W halogens above the bedroom doors replaced with Greenled’s 3.7W “Antares” lamp. 220 x 35W halogens along the corridors replaced with Greenled’s 3.7W “Antares lamp. In all 440 lamps replaced.
Quick overview/quotes:
The Marriott Hotel in Marble Arch wanted to reduce energy consumption and recognized that LED technology could replace halogen downlighting along the corridors where the lights are on for 24 hours every day. Following a comparative trial conducted in August 2008, Greenled’s “Antares” 3.7W lamp was chosen for the roll out in December 2008 because the colour temperature was sympathetic, the efficiencies were demonstrable, the light projection was effective and the service guarantee suited the task.
The lamps in the corridor were all low voltage 12V MR16 lamps. By stripping out the halogen transformers and replacing them with mains GU10 flying leads, the engineers reduced the extra energy consumption used by the transformers, as well as negating a component which often fails.
Resultant Energy Savings & Key Benefits:
Installing 440 x 4W Greenled “Antares” in place of all the 20W lamps above the doors and the 35W halogens used in the hotel’s corridors, contributed to 32,000 kWh less electricity being consumed in January 2009 than in January 2008 at Marriott Marble Arch.
